Fault-Tolerant Flight Control demonstration - November 20 2007

The GARTEUR FM AG-16 action group on Fault-Tolerant Flight Control is holding its Final Workshop in Delft on November 20th and 21st. Part of the workshop is the demonstration of new fault-tolerant controllers on the SIMONA Research Simulator. These controllers were designed by various partners within the action group to cope with a variety of failures, including the engine separation that led to the 1992 Bijlmermeer accident in Amsterdam. Test pilots flew the controllers during the previous few weeks and valuable data and comments were collected. Early results indicate a lower workload and higher probability of a safe landing with the controllers engaged. TU Delft released a press release which can be found here. The action group's homepage also contains more information.
